About Manyeleti Game Reserve

South Africa has a natural beauty that captivates everyone who visits. This unique country boasts an abundance of amazing wildlife with stunning scenery to match! Safari vacations are about an adventure with the opportunity to view once-in-a-lifetime wildlife in their natural habitat. If you are looking for an adventure that you will never forget, be sure to visit Manyeleti Game Reserve.

Manyeleti Game Reserve is a safari destination well off of the beaten path. It shares an unfenced border with the world-famous Kruger National Park, and is located between the Timbavati and Sabi Sands Game Reserves. Manyeleti translates as “place of the stars”, and staying here allows guests to immerse themselves in the wilderness of the Greater Kruger Ecosystem whilst literally being in a place of the stars.

History

Manyeleti was established as a private game reserve in 1963. During the apartheid years Manyeleti was the only game reserve where non-white people were welcome. The Kruger National Park was inaccessible for any person who was not classified as white during this time.

During those years, the government only invested a small amount of money into the areas’ development. Ironically, Manyeleti is now at the top of the range if you’re looking for the ultimate bush experience.

Wildlife

Big Five encounters at Manyeleti are almost assured due to the extensive wildlife population found in the surrounding area. Leopards are relatively easy to spot and a wide variety of antelope and other grazers roam the area. The emphasis tends to be on a rounded bush experience instead of just ticking off flagship species.

The Manyeleti Game Reserve area covers 23 000 hectares (230 km²) within the Greater Kruger National Park. The area consists of grassy plains and mixed woodland and in the rainy season, the vegetation tends to be quite thick.

This creates a variation in habitat for the animals who roam the area, often attracting more animals, especially in the hot summer months when the shade is required. Highlights include the possibility to spot the elusive leopard and over 300 species of bird who reside in the area year-round, including the barn owl, bearded woodpecker and the thick-billed cuckoo.

Manyeleti Game Reserve shares open and unfenced borders with Kruger National Park which makes it part of an extremely large ecosystem. These fenceless borders also allow animals to roam freely.

Manyeleti offers a calm and relaxed safari experience. Visitors to Manyeleti often encounter zebra and wildebeest, and wherever there are animals such as these, there will often be lions nearby! Some rarer animals you may encounter during your stay include white rhino and cheetahs.

Visitors often encounter black-backed and side-striped jackals which can often be seen trotting along through the bush, and unusual antelope like greater kudu, nyala and the rare sable antelope can also be spotted.

Manyeleti also offers visitors the chance to encounter the Big Five; lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo. Although these sightings are not always guaranteed, they are more than likely possible within the Greater Kruger Ecosystem area.

Accommodation

Manyeleti Game Reserve offers accommodation in various styles to suit every budget. At Honeyguide Tented Camps, you will stay on one of twenty-four East African style tents. This offers you an authentic safari experience where you are almost literally sleeping in the bush. In ultimate glamping style, the tents are comfortably furnished with double or twin beds, cotton sheets and damask linen and en-suite bathrooms.

The tents are split into two separate camps; Mantobeni is the ideal destination for couples whereas Khoka Moya also accommodates families. Tintswalo Safari Lodge reflects on the pioneering times of nineteenth-century African explorers. The seven suites of Tintswalo Safari Lodge are authentically decorated and individually named.

Tintswalo is an exclusive lodge situated in the Manyeleti Reserve and rests amidst an ancient sycamore tree grove along a seasonal river bed overlooking a waterhole, providing the perfect location to view animals whilst they gather around a popular water source.

Finally, Tintswalo Manor House is an exclusive use safari home and comes complete with the services of a dedicated manager, chef, game vehicle, ranger and tracker all located on site. Here you can set your own pace and agenda which makes an ideal family holiday or small group destination. Activities include morning and afternoon game drives, or drives at your leisure.
